#VPDScanner: Three women came to the aid of a person who had been assaulted by a stranger Tuesday near W Georgia and Burrard. One called 911, another helped with first aid, and the third comforted the victim. Patrol officers were able to use the info provided by witnesses to locate and arrest the 37-year-old suspect nearby. #jail #teamwork

VPD News Release | VPD investigates South Vancouver homicide
Vancouver Police are investigating an overnight homicide in the city’s Sunset neighbourhood.
Officers were called to East 55th Avenue and Main Street around 11 p.m. on April 12 after residents heard the sound of gun shots. Chirag Antil, 24, was found deceased inside a vehicle in the area.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call VPD’s Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500.

Project Access allows the buildings intercom system to be used to grant access to police officers with the assistance of 9-1-1 dispatchers for emergencies regarding
resident safety.
Project Access is strictly intended to provide emergency access while remaining respectful to the privacy of occupants of Multiple Dwelling Units.

Despite the upcoming Easter long weekend, Vancouver Fire Fighters stayed busy with multiple calls on Thursday. Crews responded to three fires, including an apartment fire on Homer Street, a building fire on Richards Street, and a lab fire at UBC's Westbrook Mall. No injuries were reported in the apartment and UBC fires, but one person was hospitalized for burns and smoke inhalation in the Richards Street incident.
Assistant Fire Chief Walter Pereira praised the crews' quick response and professionalism, noting that while three fires in one day are uncommon, the team handled the situations with skill and efficiency. VPD News Release | VPD investigates attempted child-luring outside an East Vancouver Skytrain station
Vancouver Police are appealing for witnesses after a stranger tried to coax a teenaged boy into performing sexual acts last Friday near an East Vancouver Skytrain station.
“This must have been a frightening and disturbing experience for the teenager, who was just walking home when he was approached by a man who made him feel unsafe,” says Constable Tania Visintin. “The teen did exactly what he was supposed to do by quickly going somewhere safe and reporting the incident to a trusted adult.”
The incident happened at around 8 p.m. on March 22. The 13-year-old victim was approached by a man near Duchess Street and Euclid Avenue and was asked where he lives and where he was going. The boy walked away, but the suspect continued to follow him, this time asking the teen to perform sexual acts on him.
“We commend the boy, who immediately reported the incident to a family member, and later called VPD,” adds Constable Visintin. “This allowed our investigators to begin an investigation immediately.”
The suspect is described as a South Asian man, 20-30 years old with a skinny build. He is approximately 5’8”, has short dark hair and had a moustache at the time of the incident. He was carrying a blue umbrella and spoke with a South Asian accent.
Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 604-717-0600.

#VPDScanner: #VPD officers patrolling near W Cordova & Cambie St. early Saturday morning located a man wanted Canada-wide for assault & weapons offences. Once the 37-year-old was arrested, officers found a loaded rifle in his bag, adding to his charges. He remains in custody.

VPD News Release | VPD seeks witnesses after cyclist injured in serious collision
Vancouver Police are investigating a serious collision that sent a cyclist to hospital, and are asking anyone with information to call police.
The 36-year-old was riding her bike north on Maple Street at West 4th Avenue on March 18 at just before 9:30 a.m., when she was struck by the driver of a Toyota Venza in the intersection. The cyclist was taken to hospital, where she remains with life-threatening injuries.
“The cyclist’s leg was trapped under the car, and required Vancouver Fire Rescue Services to use the jaws of life to rescue her,” says Constable Tania Visintin.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone with dash-cam footage, is asked to call VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.

VPD News Release | Vancouver Police investigate attack on woman in Stanley Park
Vancouver Police are investigating an attack on a woman in Stanley Park today.
“We are in the early stages of this investigation, and there is some detail we are unable to share However, we are telling the public about this incident so everyone can exercise caution in the area,” says Sergeant Steve Addison.
Police responded around 10:45 a.m. today to the area just north of Lost Lagoon, after a woman called 9-1-1 and reported that she had been attacked by a stranger while on Lees Trail. Patrol officers, along with members of VPD’s Mounted Unit and K9 Unit, conducted extensive searches throughout the park. The suspect has not been located.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned man in his 20s, about 5’7. He was wearing a dark toque and a zip-up jacket with a checkered pattern on the front.
Anyone with information is asked to call VPD at 604-717-4021. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.

#VPDScanner: Two constables were patrolling near W. Hastings and Carrall Street when they spotted a man riding a bike on the sidewalk without a helmet last Saturday morning. The officers attempted to stop the cyclist but he ditched the bike and tried to run away.
The officers won the foot chase, arrested the suspect, and discovered he was carrying a loaded gun and $60K in suspected fentanyl, meth, and crack cocaine.
The 35-year-old suspect was taken to jail and remains in custody.

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️VPD News Release | High-risk sex offender to reside in Vancouver
Vancouver Police are warning the public that convicted sex offender, Skylar Wayne Pelletier, will be residing in Vancouver and poses a risk of significant harm to women in the community.
Pelletier, 24, is currently serving a five-year long-term supervision order for convictions of sexual assault, assault, and break and enter.
Pelletier is 6’2” and has a heavy build. He has short black hair and brown eyes.
While living in the community, Pelletier must comply with the following conditions:
• he cannot consume, purchase or possess alcohol;
• he cannot consume, purchase or possess drugs other than prescribed medication;
• he cannot associate with the victim or members of the victim’s family;
• he must report all contacts with females to his parole supervisor;
• he must reside at a Community Correctional Centre or a Community Residential Facility, or other residential facility;
• he will have a 6p.m. curfew;
• he cannot go to Salish Park, Chilliwack; and
• he must take all medication as directed by a health care practitioner
Anyone who witnesses Skylar Wayne Pelletier in violation of any of these conditions is asked to call 9-1-1.
