VPD News Release | Vancouver Police investigate Downtown Eastside shooting
Vancouver Police are investigating a shooting in the Downtown Eastside that sent a man to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds today.
VPD officers were working on East Hastings Street around 2:30 p.m. when the 31-year-old victim was repeatedly shot. While some officers stayed to care for the injured victim, others tracked the suspect as he fled from East Hastings to Chinatown, where he was arrested moments later.
The victim, who is known to police but does not live in the Downtown Eastside, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to survive.
The suspect is a man in his 30s originally from Alberta.
More than two dozen police officers, including investigators from VPD’s Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Unit, are currently on the case.

VPD News Release | Vancouver Police release video after Good Samaritan stabbed on Granville Street
Vancouver Police have released security video showing the assault of a Good Samaritan, who was stabbed last month on Granville Street while trying to help a homeless man.
Police hope the video will lead to the identification of three men who fled after the attack and have not yet been located.
VPD officers responded around 11 p.m. on January 14, after a man was assaulted and stabbed in the chest near the entrance of the Granville Street SkyTrain Station. Three suspects – all men – fled before police were called. The victim, a 30-year-old New Westminster man, was taken to hospital for serious injuries and has since been released.
"The victim came to Vancouver with friends to celebrate a birthday in the Granville Entertainment District. When he stepped out of the SkyTrain station he saw a group of men he believed were trying to steal a bag from a homeless person,” says Constable Tania Visintin. “When he tried to intervene, he was punched in the face and stabbed in the chest.
"We have been working to identify the suspects since this incident and are now releasing video surveillance with hopes someone will recognize them and call police."
Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 604-717-4021.

Repost from Vancouver Police Department
Stay alert, stay safe! 🚨 A reminder to all: be cautious of bail money scams. The KOMCPC have received numerous calls regarding bail scams in January. Con artists may pose as law enforcement or legal officials, demanding payment in exchange for someone's release from jail.
Remember, legitimate authorities will never ask for payment over the phone. If in doubt, hang up and contact the jail directly to verify.
